recently, i got the privilege of being part of Jacob’s Well Chai (JCW)’s Artist Focus, a new program under jacob’s well chai where they seek to investigate the impact of slowing down to an artist/creator. hoping that by highlighting them through jcw’s platform, we’ll be able to somehow help sustain them to do what they love doing – to create.
「sense:shifts」, an audio, visual, and literary series of natural memories gathered during the past two years (2020 – 2022) built with artificial experiences like electronic music, manipulated photos, and augmented reality. 8 photos leading to 8 tracks accompanied by related readings and augmented reality. it was an interesting experience, collecting these.
as a kick-starter, jcw and shape/shift held a one-night event to launch the exhibit last May 24, 2022: [resonance encryption (.re:)] . the event was a small gathering at the tea house in Quezon city where the visual artworks would be displayed for a month along with other items like the report document catalog and cards that provide access to digital experiences relating to the piece. blending both physical and digital crafts.
we had a couple of drinks and snacks as we open the show and live-streamed an audio + visual set where i played some of the new tracks made for this exhibit along with others that i haven’t been able to play live before.
the catalog and cards were also released that day. a 16-page print material containing the photos with short writings and links to the tracks and augmented reality pages. both the catalog and the portraits can be tracked by the AR experiences to expand the 3D objects within it along with some interactable items.
it was a nice recalibrating scenario, that night with the jcw team and their network. really want to express gratitude to them for inviting me to do so. the exhibit will run until june 24, 2022 and the portraits, catalogs, and cards will be available at the tea house. do follow them on instagram and check out their chai concoctions. very interesting flavors and fragrances. see you sometime later.
